New Quote

The Internet is like alcohol in some sense. It accentuates what you would do anyway. If you want to be a loner, you can be more alone. If you want to connect, it makes it easier to connect.

Layers

Sometimes people are layered like that. There's something totally different underneath than what's on the surface. But sometimes, there's a third, even deeper level, and that one is the same as the top surface one. Like with pie.
  - Joss Whedon, Zack Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jed Whedon

I work in a public school full of teachers and staff.  And I have to say that this quote applies very well to the people in my school.  It actually applies quite well to the general population.  This includes myself on occasion.  Sometimes my pie is only two layers thick and other times it is only one layer thick and then there are maybe three or more layers.  I try for the most part to be only about one or two layers thick.  It takes too much work to be more than that.  I prefer to only be one layer thick as that is just being and living and does not require any work.  My wife is pretty good at living with one layer too.

Now if we can just get most of the world to live in one layer, then we can enjoy living together and getting along better.  At least I hope we can.  So there is my post for the day.  Enjoy your life and live a one layer life.

OpenOffice

Just to let anyone know.  I don't support Microsoft and their overpriced Office product.  I use OpenOffice.org and enjoy it.  It is free and works with XP, Vista and Windows 7.  Although I prefer Ubuntu Linux.  I just can't have everything I want.  So try Open Office today and see what you think.  Also they are coming up with a new version and I am looking forward to using it.

Still around just been busy...

Been busy with Vacation and other things, but I am still around.  I know I don't post much more than quotes lately, but here is one that really got me thinking.

Man is the only animal that laughs and weeps, for he is the only animal that is struck with the difference between what things are and what they ought to be.
  - William Hazlitt

I thought this was really interesting.  It is so true that we can be stuck between what we want and what is.  We are both settled with our situation and unsettled.  We can laugh at something and cry at the same issue.  Feel happy about a day and sad at the same time.  Isn't that fascinating!  We are stuck in time can only see the present and barely glimpse the future, we learn from the past and we can have conflicting emotions at the same time.  Life is weird and wonderful!

Truth

In the previous post C.S. Lewis wrote that seeking truth you may find comfort in the end, whereas if you seek comfort you just find soft soap, wishful thinking and despair.  He also said that in spite of the fact that humans prefer everything else other than God, He still accepts us.

I want to put those two together and say that seeking truth we find comfort in the end because we are seeking God, and in seeking truth we are showing our preference to God.  It is a winning situation for the human who seeks truth, because you find God and in finding God you will find life.

Thursday - Quote

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair. - C.S. Lewis

[God] is not proud...He will have us even though we have shown that we prefer everything else to Him. - C.S. Lewis

This is so true.  I can see it so clearly.  Seek truth!

I want to say more, but will leave that for another time.

Quotes for Today

Updated ***

Okay so it took me a while to get back.  Oh well.  Here are some interesting quotes that caught my attention today.  Enjoy!  ( I particularly like the middle one about the book.)

No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets.
  - Edward Abbey
A truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity and once more in old age, as a fine building should be seen by morning light, at noon and by moonlight.
  - Robertson Davies
Politicians should read science fiction, not westerns and detective stories.

I had to add this one.

Ask yourself whether you are happy and you cease to be so.
  - John Stuart Mill
  - Arthur C. Clarke
